Living on the garbage dump (Series 1) | Mae Sot, Thailand
Around 300 people are living on the garbage dump in Mae Sot. They are eating, sleeping and working on the
garbage dump. If they leave the dumpsite they might get arrested by authorities and deported back to Burma.
The locals work in shifts to recycle plasticand are very well organised. I met Fred, a volunteer who brings medicine and other supplies to the dumpsite. He brought me to the garbage dump initially and we visited the site many times.
With Fred and the help of friends we brought in medical students for checkups, supplies and occasionally brought someone back to the medical clinic if there was more help needed.
These photo’s are taken over the course of several weeks (2008).
